that I am not posting much this week- there won't be another entry till next Friday, but for a good reason!
My dad is visiting me at the moment- we already went to New York City and Lancaster, and we are going to celebrate Halloween together!
It is good to see him again- I will tell you what else we did pretty soon- hang on!
Hope you are having a good time, too!
See ya,
Ida

AWESOME!!!
As many of you might remember that this is one of my favorite words, it is just perfect for describing the trip to New York City this weekend with my friends Cansu, Ida and Anna!
The reason for going there was another- I wanted to see my dear friend Carina from Austria, who is also an aupair in America.
So we took the chance and met at Times Square- after a journey that showed us that you never ever should rely on American public transportation, but that's another story- which was just amazing!!!
After seeing each other all the girls spent time at Times Square, "hung out", took pictures, went to the humangous store of Forever 21 and ate at TGI Friday's ( you don't want to know how much I paid for chicken pasta ;) )...
I have been to Times Square before, but it was good just to see it again- I think it looks nicer in the evening, and as I love lights this always impresses me!
It also showed me that I am a city girl- I was thrilled by all those buses, cars and people driving and running around..- although there could have been less people- but well, I know, then you shouldn't go to New York if you want to avoid bumping into people ;)
When we were going by the Cab, we got to know the courtesy of cabdrivers- he thought we told him a wrong adress, yelled at as that we had to leave his car immediately, "you bitches!"..well, no tip for him.. ;)
On Sunday we took it slowly... went to Central Park where we finally ate what we bought at Starbucks. You think that there must be a Starbucks at every corner in New York- not when you are told the wrong way!! So we were looking for one almost for an hour.. then we went to Central Park, ate some lunch, and lay in a meadow..we were so exhausted! But we saw the good part of it and just enjoyed the amazingly nice weather- it was not too cold, not too warm, the sun was shining, and we had a good view!
After these two amazing days I had to say goodbye to my friend Carina- we assessed that it had been such a nice thing to see a "known" face again- felt a little like home- although it was funny that we met each other in America..we really enjoyed just talking about stuff the other one also knew about.. :)
Now I can really say that I can manage finding my way in another city- sure, I had some help from my friend and people I didn' know, who told me where to go, but I managed a lot of things on my own.. my sense of orientation is getting better- YAY! ;)
All the four of us slept when we were going home by bus- it was hilarious to see HOW pooped we were!
As we had some time, we ate dinner at the 30th Street Station in Philly, and then headed back home...we all felt for junkfood and unhealthy stuff..--- soooo, we got some!
Here's the proof
When I got home I gave my feet a little massage, they needed it!
Nie wieder hoche Schuach und danach Herumstreunern in New York,
sodala, des wors! ;)
Take care,
Ida

America goes crazy about...
HALLOWEEN!!!!
This is why you are able to buy Halloween-costumes, Halloween- Candy and Pumpkins in the beginning of September already- keep in mind, Halloween is on October 31! ;)
Due to fall and the upcoming Halloween event some of my friends and me went to a Pumpkin carve in Chadds Ford, not far away from me- the funny thing was, that we were stuck in a carline for 30 minutes because a lot of people wanted to go there-
but the waiting was worth it!
From far we could see the lights- there was an amazing atmosphere with live music, I think it was country, a hayride for kids, cheeseburgers, pretzels, fries and last but not least the pumpkin carve, which was amazing!
I never knew or expected people to do such awesome things with pumpkins-- btw, awesome is Cansu's and my favorite word, you can say it in so many different ways! Just try it- if you need stimuli, don't hesitate to call me ;)

a nice turtle..might be a retired ninja turtle! |
one of my favorites- the sssssnake! |
the two Idas united in front of the LOVE sign, just like in Philly ;) |
Cansu says, that everybody has his twin somewhere in the world- and that she found hers! |
the only spider I am not afraid of- isns't it cuuuute!? After the Pumpkin carve we all felt a little- hungry- so we went to Friendlys Who expected us to eat some ice cream??? NOT ME!! |
Caramel something with vanilla and forbidden chocolate ice cream- YAM YAM! Cansu and I shared it... |
After that we were all a little bit fired up by sugar- hilarious! It had been an awesome evening, I really enjoyed it- feeling the American way of life just a little bit more ;) So guys, take care! I won't be able to post anything till Monday, because I am going to New York for the weekend! See ya soon, Ida :) |

a little bit of Austria...
as my friend Cansu and I was wondering what we could have for lunch, the idea of making Austrian KAISERSCHMARRN came to my mind- and, gesagt, getan, we did it!!
So I took flour, sugar, eggs, mixed it as I had to and voila, we were able to eat it!
Cansu tried it the first time and she seemed to like that fundamental part of the Austrian cuisine :)
To make our lunch a little healthier we also prepared some fruit with yogurt...mmmmmh!! Fortunately American grocery stores still sell strawberries, which made our fruit salad more dainty -- yummyyy!
This menu made me feel a little bit like home again- although I never ate Kaiserschmarrn very often, sentimentality was inevitable ;)
Today I took the kids to school due to Kaitie's Spanish class- as me she is attending Spanish classes too- which is sooo cute when she tells me "Me llamo Rrrrrrrrrrosssa" with her American accent! Her second name is Rose so the Spanish teacher gave her the name Rosa...and she tries to pronounce it very "Spanish" :)
The amazing part is that Kaitie and Kyle both are able to say the roling R.. in a little exaggerated way, because we Austrians don't pronounce the R as hard as Spanish people do, but they are able to do it- which is not self evidently for an American.. :)
After that me and Kyle waited 20 minutes to be able to drop him off at the loop of his school...
He was so cute, brought a book and read the whole time! (nice for me, too ;) )
and Kyle likes to take pictures too :)

Hmpf..
I wanted to make a nice entry about the trip to the Pocono Mountains, but my Internet is very slow so I cannot upload pictures..
I guess I'll do this another time and just write about my day right now...
Well, where do I start..
I got up at 6.45 this morning, washed my face, woke up the kids, prepared their breakfast, ate some fruit, made sure they get to the bus stop on time,..just kidding..
My day was actually pretty relaxing, watched some TV after I straightened up a lil bit, did a little workout and went to the Spanish class...this is really getting more and more challenging..now we're doing present time, and the conjugations..
yo bebo
tu bebes
el,ella,ud bebe
nosotros bebemos
well, actually don't know if that's right, but my sister will tell me immediately when she reads that...
donde se party, right? :P
AAAH yes and I got a parcel from my dearest friends Marisa and Christschen- I was so pleased!!
By the way, the Mischmasch-Brot wos magnificent! I ate it right away ;)
well... I have to pick up the kids from school now, then I have to take them to several activities.. you'll hear from me soon!
All the best, hugs!

Good Morning
America, good afternoon Austria!
Or shall I say, buenos tardes?
My whole Sunday was very relaxed- my alarm clock didn't ring, so I got up at 9.30., which was good for me, because I hadn't slept much last week, then I skyped with my honey Dani and my mommy till the afternoon...I actually wanted to go to the gym, but I caught a little bit of a cold so I didn't do that, instead I just hung out in my room, wrote letters or surfed the internet...
At 5 p.m. I picked Cansu up and we went to DSW shoes, a shoe-store close to us, and we ate some dinner at Cosi's and then headed to the movie theatre to watch "The Office", ah, I mean "The Town" (i was convinced that it's the office, but I was informed of the right title ;)
Oh, I forgot- we also made a quick stop at ACME and bought some cinnamon crackers, caramel popcorn and ice cream so that we would'nt starve during watching the movie- YUM!
Well, and today I got up, made breakfast for the kids and brought them to the schoolbus- then I straightened up the house, and now I am going to have some breakfast while I am watching desperate housewives :)
Take care,
Ida

I have to tell you something serious,
but I guess you'll like it!
I just came back from an amazingly awesome day that I spent at the Exton- mall with Andrea, where we bought cool stuff like bracelets, necklaces, a "schileh" ( I am not in the mood for looking up words right now, I mean a Gilet :P but as I had to look up how you spell this in German, I also found the time to look it up in English, it's a body warmer :D ), body butter and so on - although I was looking for autumn clothes, and I had time to talk to her for a long time, because we went out for dinner at cosi's afterwards and spent almost 2 hours sitting in her car eating ice cream (pistachio and vanilla-chocolate-fudge) in front of a grocery store, and I now made a decision-
I AM GOING TO WRITE MORE OFTEN ON MY BLOG
I am typing this in big letters because everybody will read this then immediately and there is no chance for me to escape! ;)
As I talked to Andrea about writing on blogs, we came to the conclusion that we always feel the need to write on our blog because otherwise we'll feel guilty, but that we sometimes don't find the time for it! Well, actually I don't find the time for it, because I am too lazy, but she is an amazing "blog- writer" and I just love her blog!
So I got inspired by my friend and am going to write more often...don't expect too much, just a little bit.. ;)
But I hope that the people who tell me that they like reading my blog are happy to read these news.. ;)
And check out Pandora.com, you just type in an artist you like, and they'll play this artist's songs or any kind of music that is similar to that- pretty cool!
I gave them John Mayer, and they also played Maroon5, Jack Johnson and other awesome artists!
And Andrea, this picture is for you:
I just have to laugh whenever I see it- isn't it wonderful- almost as nice as your picture ;)
This is what else I did this and other weekends:

YUM |
making "crazy" faces at the park after playing tag (kinda embarassing ;) ) |
hanging out... |
The relationship between the kids and me improved the past week- they listen to me more carefully, they respect when I tell them to do something, and they come to me for cuddling and tickling more often- I really enjoy when we just hang out, go to the park or play games... Of course there are days where the communication takes places better than at other days, but, well, they are just kids, and I am just a human being too ;)
And one of Kaitie's sentences really touched my heart, because it just came out of her one evening..:
"Ida, I really like that you are our aupair!"

I can't believe I'm almost 30!!!
YAY- as most of my constant "blog-readers" know, I celebrated my twentieth birthday on Tuesday!
On the day before that I got a delicious birthday dinner from my lovely hostmum- my favourite chinese dish, the spicy garlic chicken with dumplings and egg rolls (ask my mom and sister how yummy it is :P ), and they gave my a tie-died pink sweater as their present- I just love it!!!
As my kids had been very excited, I guessed that there would be a birthday cake too, and see, there it was :D
I've seen this at our grocery store several times before and me and my hostmum talked about it very often, so they did me a huge favour and got me this one for my birthday- it was delicious!!!! and very chocolate-ish ;)
On the day of my birthday, I was ..well... I cannot describe the feeling...on the one hand I had been veeeery ecxited, because I just LOVE B- days, but on the other hand it was strange because I was not at home and not able to celebrate with my family.. But it got better when I skyped with my mom and Daniel...I just loved it! I also was allowed to open their birthday present then (they sent me packages a week before that, and I had to wait 6 days till I was allowed to open them- you cannot imagine how hard this had been ;) )
Unfortunately some of my aupair- friends "didn't have time" to come over...Cansu told me that she and Miriam would meet to hang out, so they weren't able to come over... To be honest, I was really sad and disappointed, because they didn't have time to come over on my birthday...but it got better when me and my hostfamily went to Champps, an American restaurant where the kids got balloons and tattoos (they were a "little" excited ;) ) and when we got home, it was bound to be a nice evening...
BUT.....
...all of a sudden, the doorbell rang! My kids, fast as a lightning, ran down the steps to open the door- and who was it??? My friends Cansu, Ida and Laura! They just hadn't been able to come over before because they were baking a cute Birthday cake for me- I was so happy, pleased, amazed, stunned,....! :D
This evening then got a funny turn- girls talk, laughter, just hanging out and having fun while eating loads of cake and icecream- i had a BLAST!!!
As you see, I didn't expect anyone to come over- I already had my comfy- pants on ;)
That cake was AWESOMEEEEEE!!!
I brought it to Starbucks the other night, to use it up- I had eaten too much the past days ;)
All in all, it had been an awesome birthday, but I am also looking forward to getting some Tiramisu and Bananenschnitte and celebrating with my relatives next year already-- you'll hear from me ;)

Impressions...
When it comes to the landscape, the nice places, the structure of PA, I really have to smile a lot- now that fall is here, the trees in the woods, parks let their leaves chance colour, which makes them look marvellous!
I am glad that there is a lot of nature around me, so everytime I get in my car and drive I can enjoy seeing all kinds of different colours.. GORGEOUS!
I like going to a park where the kids can ride their bikes and play at a wooden playground- it is just 10 minutes away from our home, which is very convenient..! I also went there to jog for a while, because there a not many people and I can enjoy seeing some nice places and pieces of nature... It's very peace and quiet..exactly what I need sometimes! :)
![]() |
at the park... |
- Playing soccer!! Kyle is a natural at that, he already scored several times! |
![]() |
- Hanging out outside |

- Drawing with chalks- reminds me of "good old Hof- times" ;) |

- Discovering a school bus depot |
- Cuddling in my cosy winter- sheets |
Although it is going to rain for the rest of the week, I enjoy the fall- wearing warmer clothes like boots and sweaters, drinking hot cocoa, laying in bed and reading a book, playing games,...
I have to admit that I miss the "Maroni- Standln" and the Urfahranermarkt, but the nature in Pennsylvania helps me to come over this sad feelings :)
Hope your fall is as beautiful as mine!

Yummy,
is my favourite word in the whoooole wide world (besides nasty, hysterical, awesome,...) and I have the chance to use it eeevery single day - on the one hand, because my hostmum indulges me with self- cooked dishes, fresh fruits and vegetables, and on the other hand because of the huge variety of American candies, pastries and treats!
Every person that knows me is confident about the fact that I just love love love eating, no matter what- chocolate bars, Schnitzel, cookies, salad, ice-cream, and I am able to pursue this hobby in the United States ;)
Actually, you guys know that I am eating very healthy, so mostly I just eat salad and rice, but that I am not aversed of enjoying every bite of tasty things!
So here I start the (now smaller) survey about my culinaric experiences in America--mouth watering included :P
Let's start with ice cream- I can try flavours Austrians usually cannot enjoy, like Pumpkin-spice, cheesecake, brownie, cookie dough, fudge..and WOW- they are awesome!!
My first trip to Bruster's with Andrea |
@ Friendly's..a stereotyped Diner with all kinds of American meals |
![]() |
Cheesecake- I could eat it all day! Starbucks- essential and therefore a MUST! S'mores- exciting and sticky! :D |
Baking cakes is FUN FUN FUN! (I had to leave it in the oven for an hour because --well, I actually don't know what went wrong, because I checked the temperature..but, it just looked kinda nasty, but it tasted delicious! :D ) |
I am very into cinnamon right now, probably because fall is coming and they sell everything with cinnamon- but I just LOVE cinnamon rolls, especially at Panera bread (where you can get healthy meals!) |
Provisions for a lazy DVD- afternoon :) |
But, don't be worried, I am not just eating sweet stuff- from time to time I also get to eat some junk food ;)
@ TGI Friday's- enjoying my burger with fries :D |
Cansu liked her dinner- but eating that much is exhausting too, man!^^ |
Now let's go and get a snack!
Hope to eat, ah, hear from you soon!
xoxo,
Ida :)
